I’m Mike. I was diagnosed with RRMS in 2007…by accident. You see, my now wife is an MR tech, and in 2007 when she was only my fiancée the hospital at which she works got a new MR machine installed. For that new MR scanner they needed test subjects. My wife called me up and asked me to be a test subject. I agreed only if there were no needles involved – as I loathe needle sticks. And being freshly back into bicycling, I decided sure, why not. I could ride the 13 miles up to the hospital.
So after going to the hospital by bicycle and cooling off some, I met my then girlfriend for a free MR scan. I mean, why not get a free ten minute scan and help out the hospital, right? Well…
As it turns out, it was an excellent idea. I didn’t know it as the time of the scan, but it is now obvious. There was a needle stick, a ten minute test taking 30 minutes, and the fake smile on my now-wife face when I was leaving. it was clear as day to her when she did the scans.
I have Multiple Sclerosis.
I had a MS-specializing neurologist confirm RRMS around two weeks later.
And some ten years later I begin this blog.
